Violet things are mostly flowers and fruits, particularly berries that are close to black by virtue of being dark violet. Violet is a spectral color that results from short wavelengths of light. It is remarkably absent in nature and people therefore perceive it as odd and unusual. Historically, it was difficult to produce violet colors with dye as violet dyes such as indigo are easily washed out to become bluish. Violet was so historically uncommon that the first purplish dye known as Mauve became a huge fashion trend in the 19th century, particularly in the 1890s that have been referred to as the mauve decade.
