 , updated on
Green is a ubiquitous color in nature that can feel organic, healthy, clean, pure and fresh. It is an odd color in a sense because it can feel both natural or toxic depending on the color. As green is so common in nature, any shades of green that do feel unnatural tend to feel very harsh. Light Green

Light greens based on natural things such as honeydew, environments such as greenish clouds and iconic light green things such as tennis balls. Light green feels natural but can have a harsh feeling when used for large spaces such as the interior or exterior of a house unless it is fully neutral such that it is saturated with whites, greys, black or browns.

Neutral Greens

Greens that are close to white, black or brown such that they aren't particularly colorful. These are a common choice for interiors and exteriors where colorful greens can feel discomforting due to green's association with nature. Nature can be a harsh environment and humans can perceive green as uncomfortable.

Pastel Green

Pastel crayons are pure pigment that only have a basic binding that doesn't block out underlying colors. This is the reason pastels look very bright but produce a washed-out look when applied white paper. Pastel greens are all based on this characteristic washed-out look such that they are relatively uncolorful.

Medium Green

Greens that are colorful without being excessively bright nor dark. These include standard looking greens such as fruit salad and greens that are shifted towards blue such as myrtle green.

Natural Green

Greens that are based on natural things and environments. These are more the rule than the exception as most greens are based on natural colors.

Bright Greens

Greens that are very colorful against a dark background. These are useful for their high visibility such as the bright green of highlighters. However, bright greens tend to feel unnatural and have a toxic feel.

Neon Greens

Bright greens based on the glow of green lighting. Technically speaking, true neon lights are red but the term neon is often used to describe any gas-discharge tube lighting and green variants of this do exist.

Deep Green

Greens that are heavily saturated with color such they they convey a sense of physical depth to them. These tend to be dark but are generally too green to be comfortable for an interior space. Deep greens are commonly used in fashions and product designs.

Dark Green

Dark greens are often based on night time and shadowy environments or dark colored minerals and rocks. These tend to have a stable and opulent feel. They are neutral in a dark way and can be used for luxurious feeling interiors that are meant to be dark.
